CONCERT – High Kicks Forever #2

Join us at The Zoo, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane for High Kicks Forever, an annual rock music festival organised by local Brisbane band Glycereens.

High Kicks Forever (HKF) raises money and awareness for lymphoma cancer, whilst also showcasing bands from across the East Coast of Australia.

HKF festival started as a tribute to the late Nathan Smith, beloved Glycereens bass player who passed away last year from lymphoma. Glycereens held the first HKF festival in September 2022 to celebrate the life, music and art Nathan created in his 30 year career. The support and generosity was overwhelming, with more than $11,000 raised for Lymphoma Australia.

The legacy Nathan left behind has inspired Glycereens to turn High Kicks Forever into an annual festival. This year’s event features 14 acts rotating sets across two stages and will be held at The Zoo in the heart of Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

With Screamfeeder, The VeeBees, Shandy, Glycereens, Grytt, The Strike-Outs, Wayne Keys Show, Wuss, Gutterfire, The Double Happiness, Suicide Country Hour, The Far Outs, Dirty F Holes and Cut Rate Druggist

Our aim for this year’s event is to match our efforts in 2022 and raise $11,000.00 for Lymphoma Australia. All proceeds from HKF festivals will be donated to cancer research in Nathan’s name.

Useful Definitions

  • Refractory: This means the lymphoma does not get better with treatment. The treatment didn’t work as hoped.
  • Relapsed: This means the lymphoma came back after being gone for a while after treatment.
  • 2nd line treatment: This is the second treatment you get if the first one didn’t work (refractory) or if the lymphoma comes back (relapse).
  • 3rd line treatment: This is the third treatment you get if the second one didn’t work or the lymphoma comes back again.
  • Approved: Available in Australia and listed by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).
  • Funded: Costs are covered for Australian citizens. This means if you have a Medicare card, you shouldn’t have to pay for the treatment.[WO7]

You need healthy T-cells to make CAR T-cells. For this reason, CAR T-cell therapy cannot be used if you have a T-cell lymphoma – yet.

For more information on CAR T-cells and T-cell lymphoma click here.

Special Note: Although your T-cells are removed from your blood for CAR T-cell therapy, most of our T-cells live outside of our blood – in our lymph nodes, thymus, spleen and other organs.
