Webinar 10- Understanding CAR-T cells

This webinar series focuses on CAR- T cell therapy. Dr Siok Tey provides an overview of CAR-T cells whilst A/CNC Meg Conomos provides some insight into the nursing role. 

Dr Siok Tey is a senior staff specialist at the Department of Haematology and Bone marrow Transplantation at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She is also a laboratory head at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute.  Siok received her medical and subspecialty training in Brisbane and research training at the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy at Baylor College of Medicine in the USA.  She has a PhD in immunology and a long standing research interest in developing new types of cellular immunotherapy for the treatment of cancer and complications of bone marrow transplantation.  Siok currently leads the academic CAR T cell research program and a phase I clinical trial using in-house manufactured CAR T cells at RBWH.

Meg Conomos has been a haematology nurse for the past 16 years, holding nursing roles at the Royal Brisbane Hospital before relocating to WA. More recently, Meg has been at CN at the Fiona Stanley Haematology Day unit, specialising in apheresis and working as the Clinical trial Coordinator. Meg is currently the acting CAR-T coordinator at the Fiona Stanley Hospital
